How are you coping with the lockdown?
I am lucky enough to live in a house very close to Paris with a large garden and my attitude has changed: no more planes across the sky, no more cars, no more motorcycles, so I discover the sounds of nature, I try to recognize the different birds... I even had a visit from a hedgehog! I observe the trees that grow at high speed under the sun and at 24° C.
Action is the first means of resistance. I threw myself into gardening: pruning large hedges (as if I were handling a cutting brush), shortening the boxwood, treating the rose bushes, weeding the gravel paths and especially planting vegetables (as if I were putting color on a palette...), carrots, radishes, green beans, basil and with tomato seedlings as if I were making small collages... which for now are being born inside the house.
What is your state of mind?
Covid 19!!! moreover we capitalize it: a killer.
the impression of living with an invisible killer, a living being!
it's terrible!
deserted cities
full hospitals
exhausted doctors
masked men and women
the sick
the dead
James Bond 007...
puritanical, devious, misanthropic, anti-capitalist, stock market destroyer, etc...
the only quality: ecologist
Does this confinement experience have an impact on your artistic approach?
I don't want to immortalize a work about corona19. It's too early for me, I'm still in the violence!!! As painters, our role is to draw beauty... but in these times, aesthetics would be solidarity! It's the best image we can convey.
It's time to use this disaster to think about life differently, to rebuild another way of living together...
When my vegetable garden is finished...
So before deconfinement...
I will find my canvases, my papers, my pigments, my oils, my charcoals....
