How are you experiencing the lockdown?

During these uncertain times, worry affects all of us. Our thoughts go out to the most vulnerable people, the most fragile members of our families, our parents, siblings, and cousins who work in personal services and in the hospital environment.

As a mother of a large family, a schoolteacher, and a multidisciplinary artist (in photography, visual arts, music, and dance), a day of lockdown can feel like a marathon.

By nature optimistic, I see this lockdown as an opportunity to refocus on what seems essential: good physical and mental health, my family, deep interpersonal relationships, even at a distance, and moderate consumption if possible, oriented towards what the earth offers us.

Daily, this lockdown exacerbates my sensitivity. Art allows me to emphasize what I feel.

What is your state of mind?

During this lockdown, a meditation practice ritual naturally emerged, and every day I feel immense gratitude towards all the people mentioned above, but also towards life and nature.

For several years, my partner has maintained our vegetable garden, as well as an orchard, and today it seems more than necessary to share our enthusiasm for a certain form of self-sufficiency.

Finally, a long process of introspection is taking place. I seek to understand the human challenges in these times of crisis, as well as the place of women in their family and professional spheres, and more generally in society.

While listening to my intuitions, I continue to train myself, to document myself, and in this way, I deepen my artistic identity.

Does this lockdown experience have an impact on your artistic approach?

In a single day, I might play a few cello notes, then physically stretch during dance exercises, then indulge in macro photography or light painting before resuming a visual composition…

And very often, in the presence of my children with whom I have shared my artistic impressions since their earliest age.

This lockdown experience thus allows me to develop an artistic approach endowed with femininity, with a sensibility oriented towards the natural environment and the notion of sharing with youth, my children, and my students.

Are you practicing during the lockdown? If so, can you tell us about your new works?

My latest visual composition, "Earth," places me at the center of my habitat, my island, St Barth, my planet, Earth, made of natural elements: water, air, earth, and fire.

Multidisciplinarity is present in this work, which uses several media: painting, as well as collage and photography.

This very methodical work resembles me; just like Gaia, I naturally nourish my children… in a sensitive, physical, and intellectual way.
