Monocolors

Through his Monocolor series, Philip Savary, transforms the island of St Barth and gives it a new personality.

Each photo in the series is first stripped to black and white, after which exactly one colour is selected to be allowed back in, thereby shifting the focus point of the photograph.

The discipline of desaturation and granting a single exception becomes Philippe Savary's way of transforming the photograph, and revealing what was unnoticed before.

Philippe Savary used to live in La Rochelle (South of France) and was working in the field of marketing and advertising. When he arrived in Saint-Barth in 1997, he discovered a completely different profession and began a new career as a roofer. His passion for photography was born from this time. He released several series and participated in many exhibitions on the island
