Caroline Ayrault's Saint Barth Flora series is a personal study of the island's flora, from native species like the latanier and gaïac, to the plants that arrived by sea and made Saint Barth home.
The latanier palm has long been woven by the women of Corossol into the island's famous straw hats and baskets. Gaïac, one of the Caribbean's most resilient trees, grows slowly in the island's dry coastal scrub. Its wood is so dense it sinks in water.
