How are you experiencing the lockdown?
While I'm not seeing many people, I'm not suffering from it. I walk early in the morning, then I'm in the workshop in Gustavia until hunger strikes. In the afternoon, I spend time with my mother (with a mask) whom I see much more than usual. I swim, take care of the garden, cook, the essential and simple things in life.
What is your state of mind?
At first, having time unsettled me. The fear of this microscopic virus, the anxiety of a bad movie starting over. Very quickly, I took the positive and decided to live in the present moment, not being directly confronted with the illness.
I couldn't get over Irma, this period was conducive to finishing what I had left behind due to lack of time. Now, I'm rested, I listen to the silence and nature with great happiness. My days still pass too quickly...
Does this lockdown experience have an impact on your artistic approach?
It's still too early to say, it will certainly be very important.
Are you practicing during the lockdown? If so, can you tell us about your new works?
I first finished the current orders or those that had been pending for a long time. I felt the need to tidy up, organize, clear the decks so that my creativity wouldn't be cluttered with jewelry or obligations of all kinds.
Then, my creativity went in all directions, crazy, with desires for everything and anything. I'm in the 3rd phase where I settle down and savor the desire. The desire to simply create. I have my workshop at home again, I also paint for pleasure. I first wanted to materialize the virus as a piece of jewelry, but ultimately I turned to more positive ideas. A yellow gold pendant representing the earth in turmoil, set with small, very beautiful, very luminous diamonds, and a painting combining soft, powdery colors with cashew apple bark and nuts.
